NH21022 Japanese carved wood tea tray in the shape of a simple large flat leaf, carved from one solid piece of kiri (Paulownia tomentosa) covered in a rich reddish translucent lacquer in several coats, the form with curled up edges with the tip of the leaf curled up and over, the leaf having ribbing on the interior and the reverse side completely flat, the end of the leaf with a short branch attachment accented by an orange tasseled cord. Minor signs of use and wear, blackish finish patina towards the edges and underside, otherwise fine condition. 19-3/4” Long x 12-1/2” Wide. Early 20th Century. $2,100.
